Team Rynkeby Still Stands By Its Decision to Go to Paris This Summer

The Board of Team Rynkeby Foundation still believes that it will be possible to go through with its cycling tour to Paris to support children with critical illnesses.

2,100 bike riders from eight different countries are scheduled to cycle with Team Rynkeby to Paris from July 4 to 11, 2020.

Whether the tour can be undertaken is so far unsure due to the coronavirus infection. The charity cycling team, however, carries on its planning in the belief that the situation in Europe by that time will be so normalised that the cycling tour can be undertaken more or less as planned.

These are the words of Carl Erik Dalbøge, CEO of Team Rynkeby Foundation, after an extraordinary board meeting earlier today.

- Team Rynkeby Foundation stands by its belief that the upcoming summer’s tour to Paris can be undertaken more or less as planned. This is our plan for the immediate future. We are, of course, following the situation closely and will respect all recommendations issued by the local health authorities. The Board will make its final decision whether the tour can be undertaken or not by the second half of May, says Carl Erik Dalbøge.

A blazing start
For the moment, Team Rynkeby Foundation has stopped all its collection and training activities – so far up to and including March 29, 2020.

- We were off for a blazing seasonal start and have never met such sponsorship support earlier. This year, the logos of a total of 1,541 companies are printed on our jerseys. That’s why we were looking at a new collection record earlier this year. Unfortunately, we shall probably have to face that this will not happen because of the close-down, says Carl Erik Dalbøge and continues,

- For the moment, our participants are training on an individual basis but there are, of course, limits as to how long the participants can train on their own if driving to Paris in larger groups shall be responsible. We are fully aware of that, he says.

Team Rynkeby is one of the world’s biggest, non-professional charity cycling teams. The charity cycling team consists of 2,100 bicycle riders and 550 helpers distributed on 57 teams in eight countries. Last year, Team Rynkeby collected a total of EUR 10.6 million for children with critical illnesses.
